If you have been planning your Salesforce certification path using a guide written before mid-2026, it is out of date. Not slightly — structurally. Sixteen credentials were renamed in July, twenty-four are being retired on 1 February 2027 — under four months from now — one foundational AI credential is already gone, and the naming has been rebuilt around a single product.

This is the rebuild guide. No news recap — just what changed, what it actually means for your résumé and your study calendar, and how to sequence your next three exams.

What actually changed

Change Details Action needed
16 renames 24 July 2026. “Agentforce” appears in nine of the new names, e.g. Sales Cloud Consultant became Agentforce Sales Consultant None. Content unchanged, no retest required, profiles updated automatically
24 retirements Catalog removal on 1 February 2027. Registration closed 24 July 2026; final sittings ended 31 August 2026 Target the successor credential. That window is closed
AI Associate retired Retired 2 February 2026. Last sitting was May 2025; registration closed March 2025 Stop using any study guide written for it
Agentforce Specialist Formerly AI Specialist; existing holders were converted automatically in March 2025 with no retest. $200 first attempt, $100 retake This is the growth credential. Book it
Tableau folded in Since 21 July 2025 all Tableau certifications are booked and maintained through Trailhead Academy One login now covers both tracks

What retirement actually means (this is misunderstood constantly)

Salesforce is explicit: a retired certification is still a valid certification. It stays on your Trailblazer profile, your past achievements remain visible, and the knowledge you proved does not evaporate.

Three practical consequences, though:

It leaves the public verification page. For roles you apply to next, employers cannot verify it the same way. A current credential carries more weight in screening.

Maintaining it stops making sense. Rather than spending maintenance cycles on a badge that no longer verifies publicly, put that effort into a current credential.

The retirement list tells you where Salesforce is investing. The 24 scheduled to retire skew heavily toward Accredited Professional tracks, industry clouds, and credentials that overlap with newer role-based exams — names like B2B Solution Architect, CPQ Administrator, and both MuleSoft certifications. When a vendor consolidates a catalog, the surviving credentials are where the roadmap lives.

Free progress vs paid credential: don’t confuse them

Program What it is Worth
Agentblazer Champion Foundational AI and Agentforce concepts via Trailhead trails. No exam. Renews annually Free skills check. Great starting point
Agentblazer Innovator Applying Agentforce to a business outcome. Also trail-based, no exam Free. Does not count toward Partner Navigator Score
Agentblazer Legend Innovator trail plus the proctored Agentforce Specialist exam The certification does count toward Agentforce Navigator distinctions

The distinction matters if you work at a partner. Agentblazer Status is recognition, not a credential, and it does nothing for your organisation’s Navigator position. The paid exam does. Do not let a free badge substitute for a verifiable credential on your résumé.

Rebuild your roadmap in four steps

Step 1 — Inventory. List every credential you hold and mark whether it is current, renamed, or retiring. Check your Trailblazer profile rather than your memory; the renames updated automatically and it is easy to still be quoting the old name on LinkedIn.

Step 2 — Map to role, not to collection. Forget counting badges. Ask which role you are targeting in twelve months, then find the credential that role’s job postings actually list. For administrators, Platform Administrator remains the anchor. For data roles, Data Cloud Consultant has become the gating credential on enterprise requisitions above $150,000. For agent work, Agentforce Specialist is the one employers name explicitly.

Step 3 — Sequence, don’t stack. Fundamentals first, then the AI layer, then the specialty. A candidate who understands data, security, and automation has a far stronger foundation for agent concepts than someone who jumped straight to AI without platform fluency. The exam assumes platform fluency; “no prerequisites” and “no assumed knowledge” are not the same statement.

Step 4 — Rehearse under pressure. Salesforce exams are scenario-heavy by design. A question presents an org, a constraint, and a requirement, and the correct answer depends on recognising the trade-off — not on recalling a feature name. Timed practice is what builds the reading discipline that separates a pass from a retake.

The three exams worth prioritising before February

Priority Credential Why now
1 Agentforce Specialist Roughly 192 admins per credentialed specialist. Demand is explicit in job postings
2 Data Cloud Consultant Gates enterprise roles above $150,000, and grounding is the core skill behind every agent
3 Advanced Administrator Still the clearest move out of the oversupplied entry-level admin pool

One last thing worth saying plainly. The catalog churn is not chaos — it is a signal. Salesforce has rebuilt its certification names around agents because that is where the product, the revenue, and the job postings have gone. Admin supply grew 47% while demand grew 14%. February 1 is closer than it looks: study calendars, voucher bookings, and one retake window all have to fit inside it. If your roadmap has not changed since last year, it is not a roadmap. It is a habit.
